📅 Thought for today:

‘If your mind is empty, it is always ready for anything. It is open to everything. In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities; in the expert’s mind there are few.’

— Shunryu Suzuki

What does it take to set aside your experience, beliefs, opinions, and judgement?

I was looking for a way to express the joy of running workshops for beginners.

I notice the difference between beginners and experts.

Both challenge and question, explore and experience, test and provoke.

Yet it is in the openness of the beginner to allow things to be and to savour them that I find great fulfilment.

Sometimes “experts” close their minds and don’t allow themselves to experience something new as a beginner.

I am wondering whether this is something I can teach?

Or do I too have to be a beginner before I can teach it?

Shoshin is what I was looking for.
