📅 Thought for today:

‘The greatest real thrill that life offers is to create, to construct, to develop something useful. Too often we fail to recognize and pay tribute to the creative spirit. It is that spirit that creates our jobs.’

— Alfred P Sloan

I delayed posting today so I could share the picture you see below (or above – it will depend on your viewing device!)

A few weeks ago I took my second class in wheel pottery – an intermediate class. It was a struggle as I had not had the opportunity to practice since I took the beginners class in August.

They say that the learning happens where the pain starts, and for sure the first day of the intermediate class was uphill all the way.

I had forgotten some basic stuff and generally daydreamed my way through the day, refusing to get worked up about things going “not right”. After all, it is a learning opportunity.

The end result after a day of fettling on the Sunday was a reasonable collection of pots, more challenging than anything I had done before. They had to air dry for a few weeks, then bisque fired, then glazed and finally fired.

My patient (ever-patient) teacher Sarah helped me through the whole weekend and took care of the firing.

Today I drove up to the studio in Northamptonshire and collected my finished pots, and I am very proud of what I have made.
