📅 Thought for today:
‘My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?’
— Bob Hope

Why indeed?
Last year, Christmas 2020, was the first time we were unable to get together as a family, so it was nice to be able to do that again this year.
After a long period of semi-isolation, it was nice to have people, our sons, staying in the house again. To close the doors and turn down the lights and eat, laugh, play and love.
Having used the run-up to Christmas day to celebrate the gifts we can give at any time, without cost, and I ended on Christmas Eve with love – whether familial love, romantic love, compassionate love, or unconditional love for a stranger.
There has been so much going on in our world over the past two years that I think we have lost sight of selfless love – too many selfish posts and comments, too much point-scoring and jarring commentary ignoring the feelings of others.
Yet behind all the clamouring voices, there is plenty of love on display, not least in the health service in the UK. We celebrated our health workers for a while, yet they carry on and are often taken for granted.
There are plenty of other people working through the holidays, carrying on helping in a selfless manner, and accepting all comers.
Today is a good day to open your heart and see if you can carry on the feeling into the New Year.
