Thought for today:
âA dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.â
â Oscar Wilde

When I was a young lad at school, daydreaming was a crime. In fact, being âa bit of a dreamerâ was a put down â you were not really going to get very far because you werenât focussed, and you didnât âapply yourselfâ.
I was often accused of being a dreamer. My school reports all said, âyou do betterâ and ânot realising his potentialâ. I was consistently in the top 10% in my year.
It was just that these things never mattered to me. In many ways, they still donât.
I understand that âserious business peopleâ donât sit and daydream, and I wonder âWhy not?â
Where would we be without our dreamers? Some people know how to exploit an innovation for maximum profit â for their shareholders mostly.
Yet the people to celebrate must surely be the dreamers of impossible things who work out ways to make them happen.
My teachers disparaging remarks served only to galvanise me to daydream more, to allow a creative element to run through my work, and to choose my path my way, not their way.
Cue Frank Sinatra.
